A report in the Ipswich Journal** on 10 Aug in 1855 states that :
Auction for the benefit of creditors of Mr Samuel ELLISTON, at the Sun Beer House, Plough Lane, Sudbury - a brewing plant - about 350 Gallons of Home - Brewed Beer.
Reported in Last Orders in Jan 1981 as closing in Sept 1980. "Deeply lamented by a large circle of friends and acquaintances. May its spirit haunt the GK directorsever more." Perhaps the circle of friends was too small?
There was a house in Sudbury,
They called the Rising Sun,
And in this house for miles around
For the ale the folks did run.
But then one day in a fit of pique
The GK bosses met.
"Dear Stan & Mae, this pub won't pay,
Your Sun has got to set!
The local ale-drinking folk
Were much upset by this.
For now they must go to other pubs;
And drink beer that tastes like ?£!
