In East Suff Gazzette on 18 Jun 1907 the following was reported: "Colchester Brewery Co is to sell the RED Cow in Ingate."
Address from the 1909 ratings records.
Our photo and map location show what would have been the Red Cow assuming the numbering scheme is unchanged. There is, however, some doubt about this, as this house is on a terrace dating from 1908, which is later than the pub was operating. However, whilst attached to the terrace, it doesn't seem to properly be part of it, so may indeed be the old pub. If it isn't, then it's possible that our putative pub nearby may actually have been the Red Cow.
If you can clear up any of our doubts, please get in touch.
