Known locally as the Wigwam, the Red Lion is a country pub with low ceilings in the large single bar area with seating for diners and a large garden. Food here is deliberately aimed at vegetarians and vegans, with a wide range of meat-free options.

It seems that the management and staff are moving to the Walnut Tree in Thwaite (formerly the Buck's Head) in January. We don't know what the future of this pub will be after that.

In Feb 2011 it was named one of the top ten most vegetarian-friendly pubs in the country by animal rights group PETA. The pub, which was set up by Jan Wise just over three years earlier, offers a variety of meat-free options including curries, stews and pasta dishes. Ms Wise said: "We're really amazed to be named in the top ten vegetarian pubs. I'm delighted and extremely honoured. We're the only vegetarian pub in East Anglia and 75 to 80 per cent of our customers are not vegetarian. But by the end of their meal they're converted".

The building dates from early or mid 17th century.
