This building appears on the 1883 OS map as "Beehive". [This may refer to the Bee Hive, which became the Grand Hotel between 1891 and 1901.]
The Bee Hive Tap is listed at the next lower even number to 16 (Bee Hive, later Grand Hotel) until at least 1871. It appears to have closed by 1881.
The building dates from the early 19th century.
A report in the Ipswich Journal** in Nov 1870 states that : Died on the 25th, James, infant son of James and Elizabeth Goodhew, of the Beehive Inn.
