In 1900 this 50 bed & sitting roomed hotel was described as "occuping the finest position on the sea front - commanding a magnificent & uninterupted view of the German Ocean". It also offered a spacious Hall, Lounge, Drawing, Coffee, Smoking and Billiard rooms with Bath rooms on each floor.

Destroyed by a bomb in 1943.

A hotel is shown on the 1904 OS map at the location we've marked, but it's an empty space on the 1957 sheet, which fits with it having been destroyed in the war. Buildings still standing in Marlborough Road seem to match those in one of our old photos, so this seems a likely location.
