also traded as as: Board, Barne Arms, Dunwich Arms

historical era: mid 20th century

closed between 1957 and 1973?

5 Sotterley Common

Overview | Gallery | Historical info | Public transport | Map

The Falcon is shown on OS maps at least as late as 1957 as "Falcon Inn"; the 1973 sheet just says "The Falcon" and subsequent sheets don't name the building. This suggests the pub probably closed between 1957 and 1973.

Isabella Briggs is listed as running the Falcon between 1869 and 1892 but also as running the Barne Arms in 1874 and Dunwich Arms in 1881.

If you know anything, please get in touch.

Chester Briggs's wife Isabella must have taken over the license, as on the 1871 census she is shown as Victualler of the Falcon. In 1881 Isabella Briggs is shown as License Victualler of the Dunwich Arms Inn, Sotterley? Was the Dunwich Arms Inn another name for the Falcon?

It's shown on this old OS map from about the end of the 19th century. larger map
