Not to be confused with New Engineers Arms in Hawes st.
It's understood to have stood at the junction of Hawes Street and Bath Street. Comparing the photograph with the 1883 Town Plan, it appears to have stood on the north-west corner of the junction.
A report in the Ipswich Journal** in May 1855 states :
Reported in the Ipswich Journal in May 1855 that at the Ipswich Petty Sessions that James Whittaker, keeper of the Engineer’s Arms beer house, Bath Street, St Mary Stoke, was convicted of keeping his premises open at half past eleven on a Monday night, he was fined 40s and costs.
