A report in the Bury & Norwich Post** in 1884 (Feb-19) when Harry Brown was landlord states:
"The landlord, Brown, was offered 2 trusses of hay for 3s 6d he countered with a bid of 2s 6d and a pint of beer. The purchase was made."
