Although there are references to this pub having closed in 1915, the Hoxne licensing records show it still open at least as late as 1968. It may have remained open after that year, but we have no concrete information.
A report in the Ipswich Journal** in Jun 1870 states that : Died on the 18th in London, aged 55, George the youngest son of the late Philip Goodwin of the Lion Inn at Mendham.
