Located on Majors Corner. This pub soon became a popular landmark and is often thought to have been older due to the "mock tudor" style of the building.
My name is Thomas Hughes. I found your site listing closed pubs in Ipswich, and thought you may like to know some more information concerning the Beehive on Majors Corner.
Mrs. Grace Tremayne was my Grandmother, on my Mothers side. My parents Mr. & Mrs. Eric Gordon Hughes took over as publicans from her, and carried on as publicans untill it closed in 1960. They then took over the Live and Let Live Wherstead Road Ipswich, untill they both retired in 1986. The Live and Let Live as you know has since been demolished.
Also Mr. Tom Beckerleg who was also publican at the Beehive was Mrs. Grace Tremayne's brother, my mothers Uncle. Mrs. Grace Tremayne came to Ipswich from Cornwall when she separated from her Husband Richard Tremayne.
Hope this is of some interest to you
