Located on Major's Corner, this pub soon became a popular landmark and was often thought to have been older due to the "mock Tudor" style of the building. It was demolished in 1960.

Thomas Hughes tells us:

Mrs. Grace Tremayne was my Grandmother, on my Mothers side. My parents Mr. & Mrs. Eric Gordon Hughes took over as publicans from her, and carried on as publicans until it closed in 1960. They then took over the Live and Let Live Wherstead Road Ipswich, until they both retired in 1986. The Live and Let Live as you know has since been demolished.

An earlier pub of same name was previously located at 16 Butter Market.

Also Mr. Tom Beckerleg who was also publican at the Beehive was Mrs. Grace Tremayne's brother, my mothers Uncle. Mrs. Grace Tremayne came to Ipswich from Cornwall when she separated from her Husband Richard Tremayne.

Hope this is of some interest to you
