A report in the Ipswich Journal** in Jun 1870 states that :
To be sold by auction by direction of the Trustees under the Will of Mrs Maria Cuthbert, deceased, the well accustomed Inn known as the Bell at Crowfield, together with the capital malting attached, farm buildings, and in all 12a[cres] 2r[ods] 27p[erches] of rich productive arable land, wow in the occupation of Mr James Cocksedge, whose tenancy will expire at Michaelmas next.
